Watercolours, oils, acrylics and drawing
A new beginning
I have always loved painting, ever since I was a child, but it has been an on again off again romance. For most of the last ten years, I have been very involved with digital illustration.

Gisbourne Beach Stones 2
I completed this painting yesterday (30th May 2018.) I am very pleased with the result. Acrylic on canvas 60x50 cm
I often use watercolour painting to create backdrops and foliage for my digital illustrations, so I have never entirely stopped painting, but I haven't put brushes to canvass for a while.

On a recent trip to visit my family in Australia, my son nagged me so hard about getting going again, that I came home, got the brushes out, bought some new paints, and began almost immediately.
( My son is a wonderful painter. Check out Joe Guilford Art )
I am really enjoying myself, and to be honest, I am quite surprised how easily all tmy skills came back. The header image is a detail of the piece I have just completed. I really thought I'd have to practice for months before I managed to paint anything I was happy with. So here's to a new creative chapter in my life!
What to paint?
I have always had a fascination for the macro view. I enjoy looking closely at the magical world of detail, and I love the beach, rock pools and shells - it's a no brainer for me.
Paint the magic of the beach.
